Dan, a 1970 graduate of the Columbus College of Art and Design, worked for American Greetings for 37 years. Initially hired as an illustrator, over his long career he continued to develop artistically, becoming an expert in many forms of printmaking, ceramics, papermaking and woodworking. He was the resident coach of the Media & Techniques Studio, which its main goal was to create an environment that was conducive to creating the new, with time honored traditional tools and techniques.
He continues to work in a wide variety of techniques – choosing the medium that helps him best express a particular image, thought or emotion. Some of Dan’s most recent work has had him exploring Mezzotint, a technique in the process of Intaglio, which yields a variety of middle tones along with dense velvet blacks.
Dan enjoys his short walk through a garden/wooded area to his creative studios. He is inspired some days on this journey and can begin creating a piece of art relating to this spontaneous experience before even reaching his studio.
